Meet the characters
BRENT
Boris van Severen, age 37
Brent is a traveling photographer. He shoots portraits of people around the world and hasn’t spent much time at home in the past. Now that he has to take care of his daughter, he tries to connect with her through the medium he knows best: photography. But he’s a typical clumsy dad, not very articulate, and both his wife’s absence and his daughter’s teenage behavior are testing his patience.
LIV
Pip Campbell, age 13
Liv is an adventurous and rebellious 13-year-old girl. She’s in her first year of high school and wants to prove to the world that she can handle things on her own. She loves her father, but she doesn’t know how to deal with his awkward behavior. Liv is an adolescent girl. Because she misses her mother, she wants to push people away as much as possible and seeks distraction in the company of friends.
LUKAS
Aiko Benaouisse, age 13
Lukas is a sensitive classmate of Liv's. He's a real outdoorsy kid—he climbs trees and loves working with his hands. He enjoys pushing the limits while playing, and that's what Liv finds so appealing about him. Lukas is a good friend to Liv, but maybe there's more to it.
EVA
Annelore Crollet, age 38
Eva is Brent's wife and Liv's mom. She is the voice of reason in the family and Liv's usual source of comfort. Her absence brings tension to the family dynamic.
What's the movie about?
Brent is a traveling photographer. When his wife is unexpectedly hospitalized with an unknown illness, he is left to raise his daughter, Liv, on his own. Together, they decide to create a photo series. At first, Liv happily takes her place in front of the camera, and the activity brings them closer together.
But when Brent isn’t honest about the state of Liv’s mother’s health, the tone shifts. Liv feels her father is smothering her, and she seeks independence. Her mother’s illness only seems to accelerate this development. Brent and Liv are moving through this grieving process at different paces and are in danger of losing each other.
